The belt is probably one of the most inconspicuous accessories for men - if it is worn correctly. He has the power to decide on a successful outfit. With these 5 golden rules of wearing a belt, use this power to your advantage - and shine.
- Pay attention to the side of the belt buckle
A belt should always be worn in such a way that the buckle can be opened on the same side as the trouser buttons. For men it is basically the case that the belt is inserted into the trouser loops on the left from their own point of view. In women, the direction may vary.
- Never combine the belt with suspenders
Despite its right to exist as a fashion accessory, the main focus is on the function of the belt. At least it should appear so. Therefore, under no circumstances should you combine a belt with suspenders. Less is often more.
- The color of the belt should match the shoes
This important rule determines whether your (classic) outfit will win or lose. Of course, as everywhere, the exception proves the rule. Basically, however, if black leather shoes are worn, you also choose a black leather belt. In this case, the icing on the cake is the same quality of the leather. Excessive lace can be remembered: belt and shoe come from the same cow.
- The size is what matters
In order to fulfill its function, the belt should definitely be the right size. It should neither be too loose nor take on the task of a corset. A good belt usually has five holes. The prong of the buckle should be placed in the center hole of a matching belt. The rule of thumb for a belt with an automatic buckle is: 15 cm of the belt should reach over the buckle.
- Choose the right belt width
In addition to the length of the belt, you must also pay attention to the correct width. The prevailing opinion is that a men's belt should never be less than 30mm wide. There are two occasions to consider:
- Business Look - Accessories that could distract from your simple look are inappropriate in this environment. The functional task of the belt is the focus here. A belt width of 30 or 35 mm is therefore recommended.
- Leisure look - In leisure time, a wide belt can appear sportier and stronger in character. It goes particularly well with jeans or trousers with a coarse fabric.
